More responsible living

Tips for the home

Heating has a big impact

By keeping your apartment’s temperature within the recommended range – 20–22 degrees in living areas, slightly lower in the bedroom – you do your part to keep heating costs under control. Lowering the temperature by just one degree affects heating energy consumption by about five percent.

Optimize your home’s energy consumption

Adjusting heating and electricity consumption is one of the most effective ways to reduce your carbon footprint. Consider, for example, the following:

Switch to LED bulbs – They consume up to 80% less energy than traditional incandescent bulbs and last considerably longer.

Take advantage of natural light – Open the curtains during the day and let the sun warm your home naturally.

Turn devices off completely – Devices in standby mode consume a surprising amount of electricity. By switching them off entirely, you can save up to a month’s worth of electricity bills per year.

Consider a smart thermostat – Automatic temperature control adapts to actual needs and helps keep energy consumption under control without you having to adjust the temperature yourself.

Use water only when needed

Avoid letting water run unnecessarily. While it’s nice to shower under warm water, an efficient shower saves a lot of energy. Also turn off the tap, for example, while brushing your teeth, so that water doesn’t run straight down the drain unnecessarily.

You can save electricity in the kitchen

Cooking time is shortened when you use lids on pots and pans and choose the right size hotplate.

When you set the refrigerator and freezer temperature slightly higher, they don’t need to run at full power to stay cool.

Separate collection for hazardous waste

For example, medicines or solvents should not be flushed down the toilet; instead, they must be disposed of properly.

Unnecessary and old medicines should be collected in a transparent bag and returned to the pharmacy. Cleaning agents, paints, and solvents should be stored at home in their own containers, out of reach of children and pets.
